The strengths of the film lie in its practical special effects. Hatchet 3 is a modern horror film that heavily relies on CG effects. Hatchet 3 focuses mainly on realistic makeup effects and sets. This results in some truly horrifying scenes.

Kane Hodder is a standout in the ensemble and is a formidable villain. The dialogue feels like a 1980s slasher film. It is witty and hilarious. There are also some genuinely funny moments throughout, which provide a comical contrast against all of the heart-wrenching action.

Unfortunately, due to the budget being small (1 million dollars), many locations were duplicates of previous films. The boat house in Hatchet 2 was only used once and the remainder of the footage seems like it was reused from previous films. The Hatchet and Hatchet 2 films (blog) may feel like it's a familiar film.

Overall, I enjoyed Hatchet 3 even though it was very similar to previous entries in this series--it offered lots of bloody thrills as well as some entertaining performances by the actors.
